Rodrigues RodClean Employees on Strike
As of this morning, the RodClean employees went on strike. There is anger against the authorities after the decision to launch a tender to open the market to competitors.

These RodClean 141 employees fear for their jobs. And they are indeed determined to be heard. Since this morning, all the trucks in this company in charge of garbage collection in the island were parked in the yard Anse aux Anglais. The employees decided to strike. This, after a meeting with the Commissioner of the Environment, Richard Payendee. While after the meeting, Commissioner headed to Mauritius for a mission that was already scheduled.

What has fueled the anger of these employees a tender under a contract for garbage collection. The deadline has been set for July 15. Employees see this as a threat to their jobs. A decision that, in the future, lead to the closure of RodClean.

"Komiser pe rod vir vir nou. En tou ka so lakol pa pou kole" unleash the strikers. They were disgusted face to launch tender, especially as RodClean is a company that belongs to the Regional Assembly.

They support having repeatedly requested a meeting with the commissioner. Without success."Hier mem li ti sipoze zoine nou me linn anil renion la dernie minit. Li bizin kompran ki nou enn bann imin e nousi nou bizin manze" says one employee.

It was only this morning, Wednesday, July 3, around 8:50, three employees were able to meet the Commissioner. Except that the explanation of the latter would have not convinced. And all employees are on strike.

According to our cross, Richard Payendee, reportedly asked them to return to work until his return next Monday. But the employees themselves, say they will not sell.

"Nou pou vinn met prezans tou lezour me nou pa pou travay. Komiser kroir ki tou dimoun ki dan RodClean enn bann inbesil" cowardly, angry, one of the strikers.

Clarence Perrine, a former employee of RodClean, spear him, appeal to the Prime Minister, who is also Minister of Rodrigues, for he takes a look at what is happening on the island. He asked Rodrigues deputies to the National Assembly, as well as those of the Regional Assembly, not merely to have been elected. "Zot bizin get zot pep," he said.

In Port-Mathurin, this afternoon, the effects of the strike at RodClean on the environment were already visible. And things are not likely to settle any time soon.
