Heartbroken John McAreavey Will Have To Return To Mauritius ‘To Fight Hotel In €1.6m Civil Case’

Speaking to ‘The Star’ newspaper, John McAreavey’s lawyer has confirmed that Lux Hotels – which had previously operated as Legends – has not settled.

Mr McAreavey will now have to return if the civil case is to go any further.

It would mean a return to the island where he suffered some outrageous smears when he returned for a court case in which two hotel staff members were ultimately acquitted of her murder.

His lawyer Dick Sui Wa has indicated that the case could proceed later this month – but that he has informed Mr McAveavey that his presence would be required.

The McAreavey and Harte families started their civil case against the hotel in October of last year – a short time after Avinash Treebhoowoon and Sandip Moneea were acquitted for killing Michaela.

Others on the claim include Michaela’s father Mickey Harte.

Mr McAreavey was claiming a total of €1.3m from the hotel, including loss of earnings for Michaela who was only 27, legal expenses and ‘moral damages’.

The family planned to donate the money to the Michaela Foundation.
