Water Supply: Drastic Cuts From This Week
The Central Water Authority (CWA) has applied from this week a program of drastic cuts to manage water consumption across the country. This measure is applied as the water level of reservoirs and groundwater continues to decline. In the lower Plaines Wilhems, water supply will be interrupted once a day, while in the north the CWA provides two cuts daily.

The authorities intend to review their program of cuts in November pending developments in the tanks. Currently only members of Port- Louis , consumers and residents surrounding Southwest regions are affected by water shortages . In November , the cuts will be widespread.
Ensure a supply of water until 2014
The Central Water Authority (CWA ) is working on a plan to ensure a supply of water until February 2014. Especially as the summer rains are expected to begin during the second half of December .
Mauritius has an average of 1400 mm, which is close to the seasonal average.
The water level in the different reservoirs in the country has dropped. Ditto for groundwater. Thus, Mare aux Vacoas is filled to only 56%, Mare Longue is 66%, The Farm is at 27%, Piton du Milieu is 57 % , Midlands Dam is 45 % , and the Nicolière is 62 % .
At the same time last year Midlands Dam was able to help the mini tanks which are in high Plaines Wilhems . Currently those who live in Port -Louis and surrounding areas have water every day from 4:30 to 8:30 am and from 16:30 to 20:30.
Some may not receive water in this age depending on the topography of their localities schedule. In the south -western regions like Grambier , Little Black River , Tamarin The islet Fortier, Dilo Pourri , Le Morne, Case Noyale and Coteau Raffin are supplied with water only for six hours, from 4am to 10am.
