Bandwidth: Win the Bet of Very High Speed
The increased bandwidth is essential to improve the competitiveness of companies Tic-BPO and offshore whose development depends on a better Internet connectivity.

Since 2008, demand for Internet bandwidth has been increased tenfold. This is confirmed by the telecom operators. "  The demand for bandwidth is constantly increasing  , "says Shyam Roy, Chief Executive Officer of Emtel. For its part, Kapil Reesaul, Executive Head Commercial Mauritius Telecom, says that demand for bandwidth has increased by twenty past five years for the fixed market which includes companies and individuals. Currently, Internet bandwidth is 15 Gbps, 20% for business and industry outsourcing (BPO).

Investment of $ 120 million

Mauritian firms in the ICT and offshore consume a large amount of bandwidth having to work with other countries.

"  Offshore companies are large consumers of bandwidth, mostly to the Old Continent. They need a guaranteed and stable flow  , "says Shyam Roy.

To meet this increasing demand for bandwidth in the fixed market, telecom operators have invested heavily in submarine cables. Thus, in terms of international connectivity, Emtel buys from cable LION / LION 2, which can provide an alternative to redundancy and SAFE cable. To date, the operator has invested $ 20 million in submarine fiber optic cables to improve the delivery of its network of high-speed Internet.

As for Mauritius Telecom has invested in networks of submarine fiber optic SAFE WACS, LION, EIG and EASSy cables. Its cumulative investments amounting to $ 79 million. In the next three years, the national telephone operator provides capital injections of $ 40 million in submarine cable and its national network to meet the growing demand for bandwidth.

Bringing its investment in submarine cables to 120 million by 2015.

The bandwidth demand is expected to reach 20 Gbps by the end of the year. "  At the dawn of the new millennium, business demand was for connections of less than 10 Mbps, and now they are on average more than 100 Mbps or 1 Gbps up  , "says Kapil Reesaul.

To overcome the growing business demand for Internet connectivity, telecom operators offer the service of their fiber-to-the-Business (FTTB). A reliable solution for businesses have different needs than individuals. "  Companies that undertake large file transfers or hosting the data of their customers opt for FTTB because they have connections of 100 Mbps to 1 Gbps , "said Kapil Reesaul.

65% of Top 100 use FTTB

Emtel there 18 months, launched the FTTB. to date, it provides Grand Baie La Croisette and companies in the area of cyber-city. "  The FTTB allows a wide variety of applications such as real-time applications, the web-based applications, telemedicine, VoIP and video. The last miles technology offers very high flow rates (up to 2.5 GB / s), with very low latency, and allows you to connect various types of equipment: voice, data, Internet and TV  , "said Shyam Roy.

For its part, Mauritius Telecom offers businesses to connect to the fiber optic network since 1998. "  We launched the FTTB service to provide companies with more capacity for their Internet and intranet connections  , "said Kapil Reesaul. Today, 65% of the Top 100 Companies benefit from FTTB service. This service is also available to small and medium-sized businesses who need a high speed connection. And Kapil Reesaul specify: "  Among our customers ministries, banks, offshore companies, hotels, companies operating in the ICT sector BPO. 60% of coastal hotels are currently connected to our fiber network . "

Mauritius Telecom invests Rs 1.5 billion annually in local and international networks. Nothing on the FTTB service operator has invested Rs 300 million in the last three years.

About Emtel, it counts among its customers some fifty companies that are connected to the fiber optic network. So far, the company has invested about Rs 25 million to improve its FTTB network.

Emtel has also improved its presence in the residential segment by providing better access to the bandwidth. With this in mind, the company recently launched the service Wireless' Home & Office with a connection speed of 21 Mbps through its 3.5G modem. Initiatives that go in the right direction. For it is only through a substantial improvement in our bandwidth we can switch to the era of high output

Emtel adapt to technological changes

Emtel account in the future to focus more on the development of optical fiber. "  Today, with the new terminals with the latest being the 'phablette' customers have new needs in terms of technology  , "said its CEO, Shyam Roy. In the mobile and wireless market, Emtel works with vendors following devices: Huawei, Samsung and LG.

Lower rates of 50% since 2011

The price of bandwidth regularly feeds critics. Side of Mauritius Telecom, which serves 65% of the top 100 companies of Mauritius, it is indicated that the rates gradually decline. "  Our goal is to contribute to the development of ICT industry in Mauritius is currently the third pillar of our economy  , "said Kapil Reesaul, Executive Head Commercial Mauritius Telecom.

Citing the example of a dedicated connection - a 3 Mbps IPLC - it provides the following clarification: "  In 2005, the monthly fee was $ 12 600 USD and after successive declines in January 2013, the rate increased to 2 975 USD per month. Rates 'broadband' for the business fell more than 50% since 2011.  "

Connection speed or reaction time to the network?

One of the grievances of many companies for the slow connection. For Shyam Roy, CEO of Emtel, speed is not the problem. "  The speed is not the problem because Emtel offers a connection speed of up to 2.5GB / s. What businesses complain, but rather the rate of latency, that is to say, the response time of the network. Emtel also offers dedicated bandwidth for companies that wish.  "

Side of Mauritius Telecom, companies benefit from a connection of 100 Mbps to 1 Gbps with GPON (Gigabit Passive Optical Network) technology.

"  GPON was introduced in Mauritius in 2010 and BOTU we use recently. In the installation of our infrastructure, we put a lot of emphasis on securing the network according to the most stringent to be in line with the requirements of our customers standards  , "said Kapil Reesal who adds that the cloud is a growth driver for broadband connectivity and fiber optic solutions.
