He has to his credit a number of complaints made against him by the MASA or the Department of Arts and Culture. And this Thursday, November 14, singer Nitin Chinien was arrested. He appeared in court in Port Louis this afternoon under a provisional charge of violation of the Information Technologies and Communications Authority Act (ICTA). The police had objected to his release on parole, he was taken back into police cell. His next court appearance is scheduled for Thursday, November 21.
The artist and former host of the MBC was higher against the way artists perceive the remuneration of copyright. More recently, in July, including Nitin Chinien had posted a video onFacebook and Youtube where he claimed that some artists have received preferential treatment from the Mauritius Broadcasting Corporation (MBC), while others have received excessive amounts as copyright rights of Mauritius Society of Authors (MASA).
Immediately after the publication of this video, the Ministry of Culture but also the MASA had complained against him. It was argued that such Nitin Chinien revealed confidential information that has been disclosed to the general public on the Internet.
