NTC Restructuring: Employees Afraid of Losing their Jobs

National Transport Corporation (NTC) is implementing a restructuring plan to make the most efficient corporation. –

Voluntary retirement or relocation of these employees in other government departments. This is particularly the employees covered by the Pay Research Bureau (PRB), which are affected by the restructuring plan which was approved by the Board of Directors.

The National Transport Corporation Staff Association (NTCSA) opposes the restructuring of the National Transport Corporation (NTC) and proposes to call the court to challenge the options proposed by management.

The Federation of Parastatal Bodies and Other Unions (FPBOU) announced its proposals to Shakeel Mohamed, Minister of Labour and Industrial Relations, and management of the NTC.

Employees present at a press briefing on Thursday raised the fear of losing their job. Deepak Benydin, the President of the NTCSA, said that several letters were sent by the union.

FPBOU: industrial action not ruled out

Deepak Benydin also told that they are only employees of the NTC "pay the piper" because of the restructuring of the NTC. In the same direction, Deepak Benydin said that the NTC made a profit of Rs 30 million last year.

Satyam Bholah, President NTCSA announced that the management of the flow of NTC "option forms" that employees must complete. In these "option forms", three points have been mentioned 1) I am opting to continue to work at the National Transport Corporation in my present capacity, 2) I am opting for a redeployment to another public sector organization, 3) I am opting for an early retirement, with enhancement benefits.

Employees have decided not to sign because, they say, it's not in their interests. "There was no collective bargaining 'on the restructuring of the NTC, which is unacceptable," lamented the FPBOU. The federation has also said that employees of the NTC have 25 years of service and do not put them on the pavement. Industrial action, including a demonstration or strike, are not ruled by the FPBOU.
