Stopping the Mauritius Pride Operations: Rodrigues Fears of Lack of Food

While it was expected that the ship leaves Mauritius at Monday, April 7th to arrive in two days, Wednesday 9 on the island, the program was changed at the last minute. It arrived on Friday morning, April 4. And, not having been informed of this change, many traders have not had time to place orders for various amenities. Including diapers, whose stock is already decreasing on the shelves.

Interviewed, a commercial district believes this program change will mainly harm to consumers. " We have not had time to spend large orders. So for the amenities that are normally in high demand, there may be a shortage in the local market. These are consumers who will mainly suffer. And it will not be our fault , " he said. He added that the fact that there is only one vessel to shuttle between the two islands already had a problem of organization. " Despite the small problems, we thought to be able to make do by limiting the damage. But now we can really not much and it is beyond our control, "he said visibly taken aback by this new twist.

But there is more than that. The problem of export animals remains a serious. Previously, the Mauritius Shipping Corporation had transformed several containers "cattle pen" to facilitate the safety of transportation. However, the Mauritius Trochetia  is not arranged for this. As a reminder, the fate of Mauritius Pride raised several debates since its judgment in January while its "fitness certificate" does not expire until next July. This, without Rodriguans are aware. And to this day, one question remains unanswered: what will happen if ever the Mauritius Trochetia  fails to turn? All these issues two ships had monopolized much of the discussion at the Regional Assembly at its meeting of 4 March .

Local forces were also mobilized during a peaceful march on March 22 to raise public awareness on this matter. The minority members of the Regional Assembly had, in turn, taken a position on this crucial issue. The responsible minister was even arrested during a previous national parliamentary session. But, to date, no lasting solution has yet been found by the competent authorities.
