Speaking to The Independent Bishek Narain, communication manager of the Central Water Authority (CWA) stated that this decision was taken by the technicians of the CWA and Water Resources Unit during weekend.
In the north, water cuts will occur for an hour in the morning and an hour in the evening. Narain stated that this decision has been taken as boreholes and rivers have registered a decrease of 10 per cent. The same situation prevails in the east, where water distribution will be interrupted for two hours daily.
He added that residents of Port Louis will also face water cuts as this region is mainly supplied by Grand River North West, which has decreased.
Other regions, for example the central plateau, are receiving water once daily and some regions in the south-east and west are getting water only in the afternoon.
Concerning the weather condition, there have been scattered showers since Sundays and things are expected to improve on Tuesday.
According to a forecaster of the Mauritius Meteorological station, clouds associated with the instability line will influence the local weather in the morning while moving away towards the west in the afternoon.
