Reform of the CPE: An Oral Component Soon in the Final Examinations of Primary

The new terms of CPE become clearer. Indeed, these tests will soon have an oral component. A proposal made at the first meeting of educators with the Minister of Education earlier this week. The measure was adopted and Vasant Bunwaree defends this idea because it will, he said, the chances of success for students who have difficulty understanding the questions in writing. 

" Some children are unable to identify the meaning of the questions in written examinations. Teachers have experience with several children who failed to respond. They were then put to the oral and the children responded correctly ", said the Minister of Education. 

Thought has already begun on how to insert this new measure to the CPE. The Minister of Education emphasized that should not be dismissed so students can be interviewed in Kreol or French by their teachers. But these details are still to be confirmed, is it out. The key to the minister is that students have a good base to start their secondary education. 

" I have a question. Is it at the end of the CPE examinations, the student will get everything he needs to start his life in high school? If the answer is yes, is that the CPE market. It is possible to see children being traumatized by these examinations , "says Vasant Bunwaree.

Our speaker will even admit that the CPE tests are too hard for small kids. He made the comparison to some recipients who committed suicide for personal reasons after completing their higher education. 

" What's the point that children are stressed, they are among the elite but they can no longer be face the real problems of life. That is not the government's objective. We want our young people are well trained academically and have a holistic training , "says Vasant Bunwaree.

However, it is not possible to know when these changes will be made to the CPE. The Minister is planning further consultations during the year 2012 in terms of other measures to be adopted. It further specifies that the reforms are among the priorities of his ministry for the coming year.
