The conference of mobile enable Mauritius to adapt to international standards, which are governed by the GSM Authority (GSMA). This event, which runs from March 1 to 27 in Barcelona, falls in spades: the Mauritian government is working on the revision of import standards laptops since last year.
Indeed, the Minister of Trade and Industry , Cader Sayed Hossen, had declared in December 2011 that operators of mobile devices often import defective. Hence the need to regulate the import standards. The Department of Information Technology and Communication (ICT) has also been put to use in this exercise.
On the occasion of Christmas and New year, the Consumers Protection Unit (CPU) had recorded several complaints about faulty laptops that are sold to Mauritians. An investigation was opened and the officers of the CPU had found a real mess in this area. "In many cases, once the laptop is purchased, the customer is left with a damaged battery or exploding," remarked an officer of the CPU. " We hope to import all the know-how of experts who will go to this annual conference and supervise and operators of mobile for them to adapt to these standards , "said a Department of ICT.
