From this year, the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi, a prestigious university, is offering around 70 seats to Mauritian students to undertake their Master’s Programme in Engineering, from this year.
The minister underlined that this initiative demonstrates the growing collaboration between Mauritius and India in the tertiary education sector. He pointed out, “IIT Delhi has agreed to offer the seats to our students. They will have to undergo the usual application process. They will be given seats depending on their academic brilliance as the university takes on board students with excellent grades.” He added, “This facility will be effective from this year itself,” he added.
“There is also the possibility of allowing students to pursue PhD programmes in the future but this will be decided by the university,” he said.
The project of the establishment of an IIT-like institution in Mauritius was also discussed.
“We are planning to set up an IIT-like institution. Eminent professors from the university also visited the island recently to discuss different areas of cooperation,” he said.
