Mauritius Ranks 53rd In WEF Report

Mauritius is also described as the best performing sub-Saharan African nation with a score of 4.06 followed by South Africa (71st), Rwanda (82nd), Botswana (89th), Kenya (93rd) and Senegal (100th).

The WEF has featured Mauritius as a case study in the successful development of ICT in its prestigious report.

The ICT minister, Tassarajen Pillay Chedumbrum accompanied by representatives of his ministry attended the launching ceremony of the report.

For him, it is a matter of great pride that Mauritius has been selected as one of the two countries for the policy case studies.

“It is a big honour that the WEF, which is a benchmark institution of international repute, has chosen Mauritius for this case study. It demonstrates the progress which our country has made in the ICT sector,” stated Chedumbrum.

The case study entitled ‘The making of a digital nation: Towards i-Mauritius’ illustrates how policy and regulatory frameworks have evolved to continue fostering the digital economy and information society of Mauritius.

It has addressed the challenges faced by the country in its relatively limited pool of natural resources and the quality of its human capital, and has presented the country’s strategy for ensuring that Mauritius is prepared to be part of the global economy.
