Already, for the month of February, 200 locals are being considered for a variety of jobs aboard. About 150 of those will be considered by Louis Cruise Lines (LCL) for hospitality related positions like barmen, valets, receptionists, hostesses and waiters.
LCL Senior manager (Hotel Operations), Christos Hadjipetris, has interviewed the eligible candidates. Successful applicants are expected to sail away by the end of April.
Salary packages are attractive. Recruiters said a barman could earn up to 2,000 Euros a month, including tips.
Another 50 locals will be considered by the International Cruise Recruitment Services Ltd (ICRS) for positions like massage and beauty therapists, hairstylists for the British company Steiner; another selection is planned for July.
“We are considering Mauritians for work on the Queen Mary 2 cruise ship,” ICRS Director, Dave Gooboodun, said.
The American companies Royal Caribbean International, Celebrity Cruises and Azamara Cruises are also expected to hire locals with 2,400 being considered this year.
