Mauritius Broadcasting Corporation (MBC) Director-General Dan Callikan has been asked by the Commission of Conciliation and Mediation (CCM) to attend a session on Monday to discuss the sacking of trade union leader Mrs Rehana Ameer.

With another intervention of the minister, the CCM has decided to reconsider the case of Mrs Aumeer. The first of a series of hearings will be held from Monday. Following this, Prof. Torul will submit a second report on the controversial layoff of the trade unionist.

Mrs Ameer was accused of being the author of an anonymous letter that the MBCconsidered highly defamatory. The management of the MBC was also angered by statements she made in the press during her suspension prior to her layoff last December.

Mrs Ameer has threatened to stage a hunger strike iin a bid to win reinstatement at the national briadcaster. She is the secretary general of the Federation of Parastatal Bodies and other Unions (FPBOU).
