The first management book of its kind, which highlights many management concepts in the Mauritian context, was launched on Thursday.
The book, titled ‘Management: A recipe for success’, by the author Parmaseeven Veeraragoo was launched by the minister of Tertiary Education,Research and Technology Rajesh Jeetah at the MEF Management School, Ebène.
The book covers a wide spectrum in terms of content and stresses on the impact of culture on management evolution and its development in Mauritius.
It also discusses a number of management concepts, theories and models with a particular slant towards the Mauritian management style.
The minister highlighted that the book is very enriching in terms of concepts, models, cultural mechanism, practices and applications which can be very useful to managers, academics and students.
“Writing and publishing books activates the process of knowledge sharing and development,” said Jeetah.
Commenting on the book, the author said, “
During my professional and non-professional career, I have been asked to write several articles and papers but it never crossed my mind to write a book,” said the author. He added that his family motivated and inspired him to write the book.
“My sons asked me to compile my rich experience in the field of management and leave it as a legacy to the nation,” he stated.
Veeraragoo underlined that the book focuses a lot on the historical and cultural phenomena. It is also a stepping stone for other such books to be written by
Mauritians.
Other guests present at the launch included the chairman of the Mauritian Institute of Management, Thivyananden Sooben and Ahmad Sulliman, managing director of Editions Le Printemps Ltée.
Currently, 1,000 copies of the book have been published and it is available in bookstores for Rs 300.
