Following accidents at workplaces since January —that have also involved deaths the ministry of Labour, Industrial Relations and Employment has set out to sensitise employees and employers on the importance of creating a safe work environment.
In this context, the ministry is organising a workshop on Thursday and Friday at the Municipality of Port Louis, bringing together various stakeholders.
This initiative, supported by the Ministry of Civil Service and Administrative Reforms, Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development and Ministry of Health and Quality of Life, will bring together employers, government representatives and trade unions.
In all, 36 participants will meet in order to come up with concrete proposals that will ensure safety at work. The workshop will be marked by a tripartite gathering on April 28 at 9 am. It will be an opportunity for all stakeholders to discuss the current situation before trying to find ways to solve problems and deficiencies identified during this exercise. The officers of the ministry will also be present ensuring that the 4,000 posters distributed on the Occupational Safety and Health Programme are displayed at the workplace.
