Foreign experts will make an assessment of the ICT sector in Mauritius

Experts from three international firms, AT Kearney, Gartner and World Economic Forum, will visit the island on October 5

Experts from three international firms, AT Kearney, Gartner and World Economic Forum, will visit the island on October 5. Their main aim is to make an assessment of the current situation of the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) sector in Mauritius.

AT Kearney, Gartner and World Economic Forum are specialised firms in the field of IT and research that usually prepare reports for different countries. According to an officer from the ICT ministry, it is not the first time that these firms will be conducting a study on Mauritius.However, it will be the first time that they will be sending experts to the country to conduct an assessment of the different companies in the ICT sector.

“The experts will make an assessment of the Business Processing Outsourcing (BPO) companies and will also examine the structures of the cyber towers located at Ebène.

Following their evaluation, they will prepare a report and identify loopholes in the sector ,” explained the officer.

According to the latest Network Readiness Index of the World Economic Forum report 2010-2011, Mauritius is ranked 47 with an index of 4.03 compared to a rank of 53 with an Index of 3.89 for 2010. It has positioned itself as the second country after Tunisia with the lowest risk in terms of network reliability in the African .

The significant investment in enhancing the infrastructure in the ICT sector coupled with the increase of ICT penetration in society has helped the country progress by 6 ranks.
