Super Chef’, the first cooking competition of the nation, will soon be aired on MBC.
Open to individuals above the age of 18 years who reside in Mauritius, the competition saw the participation of students, amateur and professional cooks, barring chefs and sous-chefs working in hotels and restaurants.
After a rigorous casting, 27 people were selected to participate in the show.
They will compete in various culinary events. Peeroo Nizam, executive chef at the hotel Labourdonnais, Michel de Matteis, chief executive of the Royal Palm and Jacqueline Dalais, La Clef des Champs will be the jury.
The playoffs will be filmed on September 10 and will be broadcast every Saturday on MBC1 from September 24 to December 17.
Love for cooking was the main criteria to take part in this competition. More than a hundred candidates flocked to take part in the playoffs that took place last Monday and Tuesday.
The winner will get his/ her kitchen transformed by Instyle at a cost of Rs 250,000. Instyle is said to be one of the best company’s in its field. In addition, the three finalists will attend courses with jury members.
During the playoffs, candidates must prepare a dish each with a budget of Rs 1,000 for the purchase of ingredients.
The final will include a starter, main course, dessert with a budget that will be revised accordingly.
Launched by ‘Tropical Tuna’ in order to promote healthy, balanced and delicious eating habits, this competition will help to discover new talents in Mauritius.
“IBL Brandactiv markets the ‘Tropical Tuna’ since 1970. This Mauritian product is the leader in its class of tuna in our local market,” said Jean-Michel Rouillard, general manager of IBL Brandactiv.
Adding, “We wanted to give some life to this product by organising this contest based on what is happening internationally. We then talked to ‘Maurice Publicité’ they suggested the contest ‘Super Chef by Tropical’ with the hope that it would be renewed and will conducted in the Mauritian landscape.”
Très PIED productions has also contributed for 13 episodes. The show is a reflection of ‘Masterchef’, ‘Topchef’ or ‘Un dîner presque parfait’, which are well known culinary shows.
Twenty seven candidates will compete (three per week) to be in the last nine and then in the winning trio, from which the winner will be finally designated.
“’Tropical Tuna’ … It is also a way to prove that a company can be socially responsible in its own way with respect to its products by enabling people to develop talent and get noticed by leaders,” says Claire Le Lay, who feels that the jury will be impressed by these talented individuals.
“We have seen impressive dishes like truffle-based dishes, stuffed pumpkin flower among others during qualifying rounds, dishes that you can will be able to see only in a programme like this,” Said Géraldine Neubert from Maurice Publicite.
Meanwhile, ‘Facebook Super Chef’ is already very active in which users enthusiastically share recipes and opinions about this competition.
