Thousands of letters, photographs and documents relating to Nelson Mandela was posted on Tuesday, March 27, in the internet as part of a project aimed at broadening access to the archives of the former South African president, Nobel Peace prize for his fight against apartheid.

Among the documents that were scanned include letters written to his family and smuggled out of prison, his membership card of the Methodist Church dating back 80 years and his handwritten notebooks.

This project, with an initial cost of three million, is the work of Nelson Mandela Centre of Memory and Cultural Institute Google.

This is a first for the global giant of the internet Google, which has ensured that the material proposed to be open to all and that the initial beneficiaries are not harmed.

Nelson Mandela, who is 93 years old, retired several years of active political life.
