Mauritius is part of the Indian Ocean islands to own Heritage Sites UNESCO World. The Aapravasi Ghat and Le Morne Brabant are part of this prestigious list established by the World Heritage Committee of UNESCO , representatives from 21 states.
On the occasion of the celebration of its 40th anniversary, the World Heritage Convention of UNESCO wished to educate global citizens on the importance of preserving the common heritage of mankind, through photography exhibitions in all member countries of UNESCO.
The Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam Art Gallery of Quatre Bornes therefore welcomes an exhibition of photographs of the most beautiful places in the world. An initiative of the Municipality of Quatre Bornes, in collaboration with the Department of Arts and Culture. "Maurice is perhaps a small island, but we are fortunate to have two World Heritage sites," said Mookhesswur Choonee, Minister of Arts and Culture.
The Aapravasi Ghat, landing place of Indian indentured laborers, and Morne Brabant, sanctuary of runaway slaves, are both symbolic places of the colonial history of Mauritius.
The Mayor of Quatre Bornes, Premanand Beedasy, said "that hosting this exhibition is a great honor for the Municipality of Quatre Bornes, a city of cultural diversity . "
Mookhesswur Choonee he has urged the new generation to come "discover the rich past of our country." The gallery will be open to the public from April 19 to 29, 2012 from 10 to 18.
