
The World Book and Copyright held Monday, April 23 last. Its theme was the translation. Bokova, Director General of Unesco, said on that occasion that "the translation is'' a major driver of our cultural diversity, which enriches every language through contact with other people." As part of this celebration The National Library of Mauritius, in collaboration with the Department of Arts and Culture is organizing the tenth annual book festival from 3 to 5 May 2012. The program includes activities around the book to promote reading with the Mauritian public.
Quizzes on literature will be broadcast on the airwaves during the time of the festival, and an interactive session with Mauritian writers will be held Saturday, May 5 from 15h to 16h at Port Louis Waterfront. Events around the book will also be organized in primary and secondary schools in the country.
The purpose of this festival to be held also in Rodrigues from 31 May to 2 June, is to provide the public with books at promotional prices and encourage young people to rediscover the joy of reading in the digital age.
