Relocation Of Hawkers: 500 Stalls Ready to be Distributed this Week

Relocation of peddlers who operated in the region far from the central market begins this week. 500 will be awarded their stalls this week after a random draw will be made by the mayor of Port-Louis.
The list was finalized during the weekend. And this week, the first 500 vendors will take possession of their stalls in the grounds of the former building of the Central Water Authority, Victoria Station.
" There will be a draw during the week to designate any location go to the first group of merchants , "said the Lord Mayor Mamade Kodabaccus.
Other merchants will be relocated in the coming weeks. To do this, scores of this historic building will be demolished. Meanwhile, over the weekend, a former local store adjoining it was demolished. Engineers felt it was a danger to the public because of its dilapidated condition.
Work has also begun to Gare du Nord so that buses can park next to the parking area for trucks. These facilities should be ready in the next few days, they say. 300 merchants will be installed on the old bus parking.
