Tourism: 7800 Jobs will be Created in Two Years
Activities related to tourism will generate 7,800 additional jobs by 2015. It is expected that the Human Resource Development Council (HRDC), the body responsible for the development of human resources in the country.

Thus, the number of jobs in the sector, estimated at 38,000 in 2012, is expected to reach 45 800 end of 2015. HRDC estimates are based on surveys conducted with hundreds of institutions operating in the sector, hotels, restaurants and tour operators.

The study by the HRDC job opportunities attributed to the diversification strategy implemented by the government and the operators. "Niche markets such as ecotourism, sports, medical and cultural and business tourism will contribute to job creation in the sector," said Raj Auckloo, director of the instance.

The study also focused on retention issues and lack of labor faced by the tourism industry.

The reasons identified are: a level of low wages, lack of job security, the emergence of other sectors and the preference of Mauritians to work in the public sector, among others.

The main measures proposed by the HRDC are: improvement of working conditions, the re-branding the image of the tourism sector and the organization of workshops for young people.
