That's it! From Monday, those who wish to obtain their ID card must go to the ground floor of the building Emmanuel Anquetil, more precisely where the cafeteria.

During the weekend, officers of the Department of National Identity Card (NIC) have settled all that was needed. It will now be easier for Mauritians to remove their identity cards as they will no longer have to queue at Renganaden Seeneevassen Building.

On the new identity cards, Singaporeans, who are in the country next week, participate in working sessions with the officers of the NIC. The first impression of the new card will be in October. This exercise will end in December 2014, when the new maps will be available. The government has invested Rs 1.1 billion in the project.

The new card will be at the forefront of technology with a chip containing information about the holder. It may be used in particular for electronic payments, payment of old age pension and even banking.
