6.5 Magnitude Earthquake in Taiwan
An earthquake of 6.5 magnitude on the Richter scale struck the island of Taiwan on Sunday and caused some damage, reported local media.

The earthquake occurred 38 kilometers southeast of the city of T'ai-chung, in the center of the island, at a depth of nine kilometers, according to the American Institute of Geological Research (USGS).

It is not known if the victims.

According to the TV Taiwan, tremor caused a gas explosion in the center of the island. She gave no further details. No injuries were reported.

The quake also shook the capital Taipei. "The house shook but nothing fell," said a resident of the city.

The island of Taiwan, near the seismic zone of the Pacific Ring of Fire, is frequently subject to earthquakes.
