At 113 x 163 3/8 x 168 1/8 inches (287 x 415 x 427 cm), the cube-shaped, mirror-panelled room features a shallow reflecting pool as its floor and hundreds of multicoloured LED lights suspended at varying heights from the ceiling. They flicker on and off in a strobe-like effect, producing an intense illumination of the space and a repetitive pattern of reflections.
Kusama, whose career spans six decades, was born in 1929 in Matsumoto, Japan. The infinity mirror room is part of her latest exhibition I Who Have Arrived in Heaven which also features 27 large-scale paintings, a video installation and second infinity mirror room casually known as the ‘tentacle room’.
