Cyclone Amara Rodrigues on High Alert

It is about 50 km east of Rodrigues. Amara cyclone has hit the island went on alert on Saturday 4 December 21. Cyclonic conditions are felt throughout the territory.  

The strongest gusts were recorded at Pointe Canon with 152 km / h, Plaine Corail, with 135 km / h and Lemongrass, 133 km / h. Heavy rain fell on the island overnight. The sea is her phenomenal. Of tidal waves and flooding in coastal areas are expected.

Damage have been identified on the island, including uprooted trees, power poles toppled, flooded riffles ... At last, about thirty people had sought refuge in different centers at their disposal by the state, their huts sheet did not withstand gusts sweeping the island.

The cyclone began to initiate a direction towards the southwest at about 7 km / h. It was located this morning about 640 km almost to the east of Mauritius. " It does not directly influence the weather in Mauritius. However rains are expected , "said the weather station.
