E-filing: D-Day for the Submission of Tax Records

More than 80,000 taxpayers have fulfilled their tax form online. And Mauritius Revenue Authority(MRA) expects that number rises to 90,000 tonight, Tuesday, April 1, at the close of the year. The organization encourages taxpayers to fulfil their online form although still accept paper forms.

MRA expects to receive at least 125,000 in all forms this year. Assistance centers for the public were attacked during the weekend. 7,500 people were displaced in 16 centers across the country.

If the deadline for the submission of forms and for payments is set at 20 o'clock that night, for payments online, you have until April 15th.

Ludovic Thanay, an official communication of the MRA says that " there are penalties on late submission of the form, to Rs 2,000 per month to Rs 20,000. Then another type of penalty on late payment of taxes. This is 5% of the amount due. Plus 1% for each month of delay . "
