8,000 positions to be filled in the public service: unions demand the publication of calls for applications as quickly as possible

83,000 civil servants are currently working in the public administration. But with retirements, many positions are vacant. Particularly at the level of General Workers and Attendants in local authorities.

The government announced a week ago that 8,000 positions are to be filled in the public service. But the calls for applications have not yet been published.

The union confederations warn against any recruitment without going through the Public Service Commission.

Naraindranath Gopee, president of the National Trade Unions Confederation, warns; above all, no politics. He pleads for transparency in this recruitment exercise.

“Remember, you can't just fill positions at the bottom. We will also need to fill positions in all promotional grades."

There is a great need for new blood in the public service, says Hanif Peerun, president of the Mauritius Labor Congress.

“We have said that many departments are suffering from a labor shortage. It's not too late to fill vacancies. "

It is worth emphasizing that certain ministries, such as Health and Local Authorities, can recruit staff without going through calls for applications.
