At the Port Louis oil terminal: 200-liter heavy oil leak, emergency response plan activated

According to a statement from the Ministry of Environment, Solid Waste Management and Climate Change, initial estimates from the Mauritius Ports Authority (MPA) indicate a spill of approximately 200 litres of hydrocarbons.

In response to this incident, the MPA immediately activated its Port Louis Harbour Oil Spill Response Plan . Absorbent booms were deployed around the affected area to contain the oil spill, while a hose clamp was installed on the pipeline to stop the leak.

Absorbent booms will be deployed around the affected area at the oil dock to contain the oil slick and limit the spread of the spill.

A team composed of officers from the Environmental Police and the Ministry went to the scene to monitor the situation and supervise the operations.

Furthermore, an investigation has been opened by the Environmental Police to determine the exact circumstances of the incident and establish any potential responsibilities.

The ministry states that it will ensure that all necessary measures are taken to contain the pollution and limit its impact on the marine environment.
