Shopping online MRA fee of Rs 150 now in effect
A fee of Rs 150 introduced by the MRA (Mauritius Revenue Authority) applies from this Tuesday to imported goods intended for personal use and not for resale. This measure penalizes consumers, an increasing number of whom are shopping online.

According to Jayen Chellum, Secretary General of the Mauritius Consumer Association (ACIM), these fees represent a new way for the MRA to tax imported goods. As consumers turn to online sales platforms to find products cheaper than in Mauritius, this Rs 150 charge is now added to the cost of their purchases.

Please note that for parcels valued at less than Rs 1,000, the fees will be collected by the postal agent or carrier. For parcels exceeding Rs 1,000, they will be included in the customs declaration.
