Attendu le mois dernier, le rapport du Pay Research Bureau (PRB)ne sera rendu public que pendant le premier trimestre de l’année prochaine. C’est en tout cas la promesse du Premier ministre sir Anerood Jugnauth faite au Parlement il y a deux semaines.

La grogne s’est installée parmi de nombreux employés tant des secteurs privé que public. Ils s’élèvent contre l’utilisation de la pointeuse biométrique ainsi que celle des caméras de surveillance. Plus que ceux des Etats-Unis ou de l’Angleterre, ils ont l'impression d'être constamment sous surveillance.

After the unions Thursday, it was the turn of the Mauritius Employers' Federation to make a proposal to pay compensation on Friday, October 4. The figure is between Rs 200 and Rs 250. It handed over a document to the Ministry of Finance. And a meeting is scheduled next week to discuss the various proposals.

The Mauritius Employers' Federation (MEF) is undertaking a study on employment and the prospects for wage increases in the private sector. The findings of this exercise will be mainly used to formulate the position of employers in tripartite negotiations on wage compensation in 2014.

The resilience shown by local businesses deal with the global economic crisis in 2008 seems to dissipate this year. Official figures speak for themselves: 722 employees were laid off for economic reasons from January to April 2013, 180 layoffs recorded per month.

Job seekers still have a hard time because the job opportunities fell by 44% in the first four months of the year compared to the same period in 2012. Figures compiled by the Ministry of Labour says it all: 6500 vacancies have been available since the beginning of the year to 38,000 applicants, more than 19,000 unemployed. To complicate matters, the outlook is more favorable.
