ICT Expo 2015

Background

The National Computer Board (NCB), operating under the aegis of the Ministry of Technology, Communication and Innovation (MTCI), has so far organized 6 editions of ICT Expo with the aim to create more awareness on emerging technologies and to bring ICT closer to the rural communities. In the past, ICT Expos were held at the following places:

• Bel Air Social Welfare Centre (April 2014) : 1,500 visitors.
• Goodlands, Farmers Service Centre (July 2013) : 4,500 visitors.
• Rose Belle, Centre du Vieux Moulin (April 2013) : 4,500 visitors.
• Flacq, Rajcoomar Gujadhur SSS (April 2012) : 6,000 visitors.
• Riv. du Rempart Youth Centre (August 2011) : 7,500 visitors.
• Riv. des Anguilles Community Centre (August 2011) : 5,000 visitors.

Objectives 

The objectives of the ICT Expos are to:

• Create awareness on emerging technologies
• Bridging the digital divide in rural areas
• Sensitize on the potential applications of ICT and choice of technology
• Sensitize on career opportunities in the ICT sector (ISDP)
• To promote and encourage ICT literacy
• Bring Government services closer to the people
• Introduce access to Internet (Cyber Caravans)

Dates and Venue

ICT Expo 2015 will be held at Kendra Shopping Complex at St Pierre on 6 and 7 June 2015. The opening function will take place on Saturday 6 June 2015 at 10h00. The chief guest for the opening ceremony is the Hon. Pravind Kumar Jugnauth, Minister of Technology, Communication and Innovation.

The opening days and hours of the event are as follows:

• Saturday 6 June 2015: 11.00 hrs to 19.00 hrs
• Sunday 7 June 2015: 09.00 hrs to 15.00 hrs

Entrance is free of charge. Around 7,000 people are expected to visit the event.
