The British Council donated 500 books to the University of Mauritius

The British Council donated 500 books to the University of Mauritius (UoM) last week.

The books were on subjects like English literature, marketing, business and human resources. Dawn Long, director of the British Council said he was pleased to support the work of partners such as the UoM.

“A good library is an important resource for any institution of higher education and we are happy to help UoM, the MIE and UTM to achieve that goal,” he said.

Long stressed on working with partners in the field of education in Mauritius to support teaching and learning of English. Responding to new demands in the recent years, the British Council has invested in the development of free online resources for learners and teachers of English.

The British Council’s Learn English website offers a wide range of content for learners, from children to adults. Its Premier Skills website even helps students who have an interest in football.

This is an exceptional site with some wonderful examples of sets of language learning and stories.

The British Council is also innovating in other areas and will launch English classes for children as young as 5-6 years old this month. “Our class for these children will tap into their natural ability to learn languages at an early age,” said Anne Bell, academic director of the British Council.
