Rodrigues: Use of Plastic Bags Banned

Up to Rs 500. This is what will soon charge users of plastic bags in Rodrigues. The Regional Assembly voted in favor of a new law banning their use. Repeat offenders will be liable to a fine not exceeding Rs 1,000.
The sale and distribution of plastic bags will also be prohibited. Offenders will be liable to a fine not exceeding Rs 2,000 the first time. It could reach Rs 5,000 the second time and the third Rs 10,000.
Those producing or storing large plastic bags will also be fined. Does not exceed Rs 5,000 the first time and could reach Rs 10,000 per second. And the third time, the offender will risk a prison sentence of up to three months.
