To date, nearly 38,000 applications have been made to the Mauritius Revenue Authority (MRA) for the Housing Loan Relief Scheme.

This measure, announced by the Minister of Finance, during his 2023-2024 budget speech, aims to relieve housing loan holders in the face of inflation and the rise in bank interest rates.

Thus, a person who has taken out a housing loan not exceeding Rs 5 million will benefit from a monthly allowance of Rs 1,000 which will be paid into their bank account for this fiscal year. The MRA has already started payment for a first part of the beneficiaries. Thus 25,091 have already received Rs 1,000 for the month of July 2023. Payment for the months of August and September will soon be made, informs an MRA official.
