Île aux Bénitiers to Close Next Week for Cleanup and deratization

In response to health concerns, access to Île aux Bénitiers will be prohibited starting next week. The Minister of Lands and Housing, Shakeel Mohamed, announced this measure, emphasizing the urgency of the situation.

Environmental studies have been completed, and a tender has been issued to select a company for thorough cleaning and deratization of the island.

Additionally, commercial structures on the island will be dismantled next week with assistance from the Special Mobile Force. This initiative marks the beginning of a broader effort to regulate all 52 islands surrounding Mauritius, addressing the proliferation of illegal structures and unauthorized activities over the past decade.
