The stock market ended the week in negative territory. The total return index, the SEMTRI, closed the session on Friday 25 February to May 944.93 points, yielding 75.19 points during the week. As for SEMDEX, he closed the week at 2 033.61 points.

Since early 2011, SEMTRI and SEMDEX grew by 3.43% and 3.36% respectively. SEM-7 Index which includes heavyweights market closed Friday's session at 384.60 points. The market capitalization stood at the end of the week at Rs 184.28 billion, realizing a growth of 3.53% since the beginning of the year. The amount of net foreign investments on the official market since the beginning of 2011 stands at Rs 398.7 million.

Transactions totalling Rs 149.55 million were recorded on the official market. The largest exchanges were recorded on Mauritius Commercial Bank (MCB), New Mauritius Hotels (NMH), State Bank of Mauritius (SBM), Sun Resorts Ltd. (SRL) and ENL Land Ltd (Ordinary). Titles MCB, NMH, SBM, SRL and ENL Land Ltd. were traded for Rs 33.45 million, Rs 30.05 million, Rs 15.49 million, Rs 7.27 million and Rs 6.41 million respectively. Shares of MCB, NMH, SBM, SRL and ENL Land Ltd were quoted at Rs 172, Rs 109, Rs 97, Rs 60.50 and Rs 44 respectively at the close of business, Friday, February 25, 2011.

Of the 38 listed stocks, 5 finished the week up, 16 were stable and 17 closed lower. The largest increases were recorded: Gamma Civic (1.51%), Mauritian Eagle Insurance (0.63%), Fincorp Investment Ltd (+0.47%), ENL Commercial Ltd (+0.38% ) and Harel Frères Ltd (+0.26%). The largest declines include: Rogers & Co. Ltd. (-5.96%), Caudan Development Ltd. (-4.76%), Automatic Systems Ltd. (-3.85%), MDIT (-3.82%) and New Mauritius Hotels (-3.54%).

The ten best performing companies in terms of total return since the beginning of the year are: Air Mauritius, Phoenix Beverages, Shell Mauritius, Gamma Civic, National Investment Trust, Mauritian Eagle Insurance, Sun Resorts, State Bank of Mauritius, Mauritius Chemical & Fertilizer Industry and Mauritius Union Assurance. The yields of the ten top-performing companies from the beginning of the year are between 4.79% and 21.95%.

On the Development & Enterprise Market (DEM), both indices DEMEX DEMTRI and closed the meeting on Friday, 25 février 2011 to 151.47 points and 170.24 points respectively. The market capitalization stood at Rs 56.81 billion at the end of the week. Transactions totaling Rs 38.18 million were recorded for a volume of 5.64 million shares traded during the week. The amount of net investment (purchases minus sales) Aliens in the DEM since the beginning of 2011 stood at the close of business of Friday, February 25, 2011 to Rs 15 million. The ten best performing companies in terms of total return since the beginning of the year are: Sky Clothing, Mauritius Freeport Development, Investment ENL, EUDCOS, Tropical Paradise, Ascencia, Medical & Surgical Centre Ltd, FIDES, Alma Investments and Bychemex.

The yields of the ten top-performing companies, since the beginning of the year, are between 4.38% and 29.63%.

Worldwide financial markets ended the week on a negative note. The Dow Jones and Nasdaq lost 2.03% and 3.31% respectively.

In Europe, stock indexes, including the CAC-40, FTSE and the DAX-100 yielded 3.44%, 2.75% and 3.71% respectively.
