These results have a key issue, namely the number of students who can access Grade 12. With the reform announced by the Minister of Education, Mahend Gungapersad: it will no longer be necessary to obtain five credits to move on to the Higher School Certificate (HSC). Students will be able to pass this stage with only three credits.
Minister Gungapersad assured that tailored support measures will be deployed to support students who have obtained three credits. This initiative aims to expand educational opportunities and enable more young people to continue their higher secondary education.
For the 2023 batch, the pass rate was 73.71%, according to data from the Mauritius Examination Syndicate (MES). Out of 12,919 candidates, 9,522 had met the criteria for obtaining the SC, including 5,368 girls and 4,154 boys. It should be noted that Cambridge Assessment International Education (CAIE) had then reinstated the correction criteria applied before the Covid-19 pandemic.
The Higher School Certificate (HSC) results will be announced around February 7. Candidates will also be able to check their performance online, and the list of 49 successful candidates will be announced on the same day.
Please note that the MES will communicate the official success rate for the 2024 School Certificate in the coming days.
