Mountaineer Jaysen Arumugum, 34, the first Mauritian to dare climb the highest peak on every continent, realised his dream yesterday. He became the first Mauritian to raise the national flag on Mount Everest.
Jaysen has already succeeded in climbing five of the peaks (including Kilimanjaro-Africa, Mont Blanc- France, Elbrus-Europe, Kosciusko- Australia, Aconcagua-South America and Denali-North America).
Born in London of Mauritian parents, Jaysen lived barely six years here, between his 13th and 19th birthdays.
His battle to raise money for breast cancer victims drove him to take on his greatest challenge – Mount Everest.
He has associated himself to Breast Cancer Care in the UK and Link-To- Life in Mauritius. So far he has raised almost £6,500.
“To summit Everest is every mountaineer’s dream and to fly one’s country’s flag is an incredible honour.
“I will make sure that I make the most of having made an incredibly difficult personal achievement come true and hope to make my nation proud,” he told NEWSNOW last week before the ascent.
