The Ministry of Arts and Culture, in collaboration with the Ministry of Tourism and Leisure, the Mauritius Tourism Promotion Authority (MTPA), Moka / Flacq District Council and Bon Accueil Village Council is planning a Diwali night show. At a press conference on Wednesday, the minister of Arts and Culture, Mookhesswur Choonee said that Diwali is one of the four national festivals celebrated with pomp every year.
Young artistes from India like Shashi Suman, Indian Idol finalist and Tia Kar, a popular contestant on Indian Idol 5 will be performing. Performances by local groups such as those of Mahatma Gandhi Institute, Vishal Mungroo accompanied by Hum Bhi Orchestra, Jeet Palakdharry, who will pay homage to Jagjit Singh, Gowry brothers and Baja Baje Boys, and Dance in the City will be shown.
The evening will culminate in a massive fireworks display. Choonee said that his ministry has made all necessary security arrangements to ensure public safety while National Transport Authority will provide late night bus services.
The Mauritius Sanatan Dharma Temples Federation (MSDTF) started Diwali celebrations on October 16 and have a list of activities for the coming days. The Navrang Sabha at 16 eme Mille and Mont Gout Shiva Sewa Sangh will celebrate Diwali on October 22. Celebrations will also be held at SSS Souillac on October 23 and the Arya Hindu Sewa Sangh of Goodlands on October 26.
