Siew Meng Tan, former Head of Commercial Banking at HSBC Singapore, was named chief executive officer of the Mauritian branch of this banking group. She officially took office on Tuesday, February 1, at the same time becoming the second woman to hold such a high position in Mauritius, according to Nelly Jirari Mascarene Bank Limited.
Tan Siew Meng succeeds Sandeep Uppal, who after four years as head of HSBC Mauritius, was given the position of Head of Commercial Banking in India, with effect from February 15, 2011. The new CEO of the Mauritian branch of HSBC has joined this international banking group in 2004 and has nearly 25 years of experience in banking in Singapore. She holds a degree in Business Administration from the Singapore National University.
According to Peter Wong, CEO of HSBC Asia Pacific, experience gained by Tan Siew Meng at the highest level of Singapore bank will give him the opportunity to further develop the operations of HSBC in Mauritius. "HSBC operations in Mauritius are strategically important in Asia to the group, as they add to the strength of our network and international connectivity, which is an HSBC customers gain", he said.
