A new Customs House will be opened today by the Prime Minister Navin Ramgoolam. It will be the headquarters of the Customs Department of the MRA and a one-stop shop for all customs, excise and port operations.
It is amed to have a positive impact in reducing the processing time of customs declarations and the clearances of goods. Mauritius is also the first country among 168 memberstates of the WCO to have implemented on a pilot basis the National Customs Enforcement Network (NCEN) which aims to facilitate international trade and allow the customs services more efficient and rapid.
“This project aims at gathering, analysing and diffusing the information on customs offenses and to exchange information on a global basis in all security,” an MRA Customs source said.
