Small Independent Power Producers (SIPP) will get their permit to produce electricity from the Central Electricity Board (CEB) by the end of next week. This was stated by a senior officer of the Central Electricity Board (CEB).
The CEB had received 271 requests of which 197 are residential, 74 commercial and industrial. The CEB has analysed 75 per cent of them of which 21 have been selected for the production of 2MW electricity.
President Sir Anerood Jugnauth has already given his approval for this first batch.
Their 15-year contract will be isued next week.
The ministry of Energy had launched the SSDG Project in December 2010 with a view to promoting clean energy in line with the vision of the government to democratise the electricity grid.
Through this initiative, the SIPP will be given the opportunity to produce their own electricity from renewable energy sources, and export any excess to the CEB.
The CEB officer also stated that there will be a second batch of SIPP very soon.
