The setting up of two new hotels in Mauritius by the Thai Centara Hotel and Resorts chain will create 300 new jobs. The first, at Poste-Lafayette, will be a 4-star hotel and will open in October 2012.
It aims to attract 10,000 guests during the first year. The second hotel, a 5-star, will be set up at Haute Rive by 2013 and will have 170 rooms.
Indian Ocean Real Estate Company Ltd, is the local partner of this group. “We will employ mostly Mauritians, knowing that Mauritius has a qualified and active population,” said Kevin Wallace, president of Centara International Management, during a recent visit to Mauritius.
“It should be noted that Asian tourists are accustomed to a specific style of hotel. We wish to make Mauritius a destination of excellence and a reference for them – for example, through incorporating Thai, Japanese, Chinese, European cuisines and spa services, including Ayurvedic massage.
“I think that Mauritius is a destination which can offer much in terms of leisure and hospitality, like the other countries where Centara Hotels & Resorts is already established, which include Egypt, Maldives, Vietnam, Indonesia and Sri Lanka.”
