The Ministry of Education and Human Resources is disbursing Rs1 million to carry out a feasibility study for the setting up of three new training centres in rural areas.
The government is also spending Rs2 million for consultancy services to develop a business plan for the setting up a regional Training of Trainers Centre for technical and vocational education and training (TVET) for the Mauritius Institute for Training and Development.
The government is also spending over Rs500,000 to pay for consultancy services to set up an Assessment and Certification Division for the MITD in line with its additional responsibility of being an awarding body.
“The government has set for itself a very ambitious target to make of Mauritius a regional training hub. Along with the provision of free transport, the government is committed to ensure that each and every youth of this country seeking training, is given an opportunity to do so,” said Minister of Education and Human Resources, Mr Vasant Bunwaree.
He was speaking yesterday during the awarding of certificates to 950 MITD studentsay. “It is often pointed out by the media in general that there is risk of food and other shortages over the world.
However, as minister responsible for human resources, I must say that skill shortage is a serious issue for the country and, if not monitored closely, will jam our very machinery of production of goods and services at large.
“This is why I wish to reassure all our stakeholders that training is and will always be high on the agenda of this government,” he said.
