University of Mauritius ranks 23rd among the top 100 African universities

University of Mauritius (UoM) ranks 23rd among the top 100 African universities and 3,000th among 12,000 top universities at the international level.

This was stated by Professor Soodursun Jugessur, pro-chancellor and chairman of the UoM Council, at a press conference held at Réduit on Monday.

Professor Jugessur said that he was very proud of this achievement. He also praised the staff members.

“In January, UoM was ranked 35th among top 100 African universities while on the international level, it was ranked 3,431 among top 12,000 universities but the ranking has now improved to 23rd and 3000th place respectively,” he said.

“The Knowledge Sharing Week organised last year has contributed to the university’s success,” he added.

Professor Jugessur added that this year’s Knowledge Sharing Week is being held from July 20 to 27.

The aim of the activity, which is an initiative of the UoM vice-chancellor Professor Konrad Morgan, is to promote learning and sharing of ideas and knowledge among academic as well as non-academic staff.

“The Knowledge Sharing Week has led to changes in people’s mindset. It involves the concept of exchange of ideas, compassion and solidarity among the staff,” underlined Professor Jugessur.

“We should not only focus on providing education but also promote sharing of knowledge. I hope that this will be a long-term feature,” said Professor Morgan.

The Knowledge Sharing Week includes several topics such as tips on saving energy at home, self improvement, ethics and IT applications.
