The Mauritius Broadcasting Corporation (MBC) is gearing up to present the third edition of the local singing competition, Star 2011.
Surendra Nath Raghu, Chief Technical Producer at the MBC, told The Independent that Star 2011 comes with a twist as, “two new categories are being added to the already existing categories. This year Ghazal and Bhojpuri are the two new additions.”
Auditions are expected to begin on September 10 and will take place over 3 weekends.Preliminaries, which will be broadcasted live form the Mahatma Gandhi Institute (MGI) auditorium, are anticipated to start in mid-October.
The grand finals will take place from December 19 to 30 at the Municipal Council of Port Louis.
David Boodhna, the responsible officer of production at MBC told The Independent, “The main objective at the MBC is to satisfy the artists and the population at large. He added, “We also wish to lend a hand in making every ethnic community discover the rich culture of its neighbours.” He added that the MBC is doing everything possible for the competitions take place in transparency. “Every candidate must be given a fair chance of winning, thus all jury members will have to sign a letter to avoid any form of conflict of interest,” he cited as an example of measures being taken to guarantee fair competition.
