The prize giving ceremony for the 24th edition of the Constance Education Award for Higher School Certificate (HSC) and School Certificate (SC) levels was held at Constance Hospitality Academy, Constance, Centre de Flacq on Tuesday.
It was attended by the minister of Education and Human Resources, Vasant Bunwaree, secretary Dhiraj Kamajeet, general manager of the Constance group, Pierre de Chazal du Mée, as well as various rectors and students from the participating institutions.
The winning HSC team was Mahatma Gandhi Institute (MGI) Flacq State Secondary School and winning SC team was Rajkumar Gujadhur SSS.
This year’s theme for HSC was on the impact of world climatic conditions while the SC teams had to work on the theme capital punishment.
“This kind of competition leads to the complete and holistic development of students while widening their general knowledge,” stated Bunwaree. “I was impressed with the way students tackled the capital punishment theme,” he added.
He also mentioned ‘Ecole Verte’ project that his ministry is working on, which is in line with Maurice Ile Durable concept.
“A total of 25 entries were received at the HSC level and 19 at the SC level, which is a record. The research undertaken by the participants will help them become more aware about the topic so they can eventually shape a healthy planet for future generations. This year a special prize was given for the best oral presentation,” said de Chazal du Mée. Bon Accueil SSS and MGI Flacq won this prize at the SC and HSC levels respectively.
Raj Pentiah, spokesperson and member of the jury said that the aim was to provide the youth with a platform to express themselves, making use of technology.
