This is an initiative of the Tertiary Education Commission and is being held in collaboration with the Ministry of Tertiary Education, Science, Research and Technology and the Ministry of Youth and Sports.
The preliminary rounds were underway since Monday. The competition will end on October 20. Students will be participating in various disciplines such as athletics for both men and women, football, volley ball for men and women, basketball for men and women, table tennis for men and women, badminton for men and women and cricket. Various venues have been earmarked for the different sports disciplines,.
Athletics will be hosted at the Maryse Justin Stadium, Réduit; cricket matches at Gymkhana Grounds, Vacoas amongst others.
The participants are from prestigious tertiary institutions such as the Apollo Bramwell Nursing Schooland the EIILM University Mauritius Branch Campus amongst others.
Sports competitions are already part of the lifestyle of the different tertiary educational institutions in Mauritius. Some institutions both private and public have been holding internal sports competition for their students.
This event will provide a platform for students to compete in a fair manner, provide them an arena in which they can compete fairly, regardless of their background or social standing.
The practice of sport is considered to be important in the development of the overall psyche and character of an individual. It is therefore essential to develop the physical, intellectual and moral character of students through sports which must be guaranteed within the educational system.
